"Es difícil hallar un marco lo bastante vívido como para incorporar la escultura de Louise Bourgeois. Los intentos de conformar su trabajo a un orden fríamente evolutivo o histórico-artístico, o de verlo en el contexto de un grupo artístico u otro, se han demostrado más o menos irrelevantes. Cualquier aproximación -no-objetivo, figurativo, sexualmente explícito, extraño o caótico- y cualquier material -el yeso y el látex perecederos, el tradicional mármol, el bronce, la madera, el cemento, la pintura, la cera, la resina- puede servir para definir las necesidades y emociones de esta mujer. Pocas veces se ha dado un arte abstracto conformado de manera tan directa y tan honesta por la psique de su creador".
